The last month or so has been a time of ups and downs, it really has been a bit of a roller coaster ride. I have had so many different emotions running through my body that I don't know whether I have been coming or going.

Of course I have had the usual worry about whether I can afford the house or not, the lodger has finally been able to pay me some money so that worry has eased so I can now look forward, that isn't to say a nice Lottery win wouldn't go a miss but we all dream of that but it seldom comes true. I am not talking millions although it would be nice, I would like just enough to pay the mortgage and debts off so I can relax a bit and start living my life again.

The car has been playing up and seems to be drinking petrol quicker than I can drink a pint of lager on a Saturday night, thanks to Garry at Lightning Automotive though most have the problems have been solved.

The worst part of the last few weeks has been the passing of one of my work colleagues who had a heart attack whilst on delivery and the passing of my very good friend Judith after a long illness. I was lucky enough to share a few moments with her before she went into hospital and will treasure them forever but just wish things could have been different. Her funeral was a very emotional affair and even now I still can't believe that she has gone. RIP Jude

Looking on the bright side I have had the girls this week and although they have run me ragged it has been great to have them stay. Georgie is really starting to say a lot of words now, I sometimes think of changing my name from Daddy.It makes me laugh the way she shouts for Mr Tumble on the kids show Something Special. Aston is really enjoying school and has had me collecting all kinds of junk to take to school to make things with, I suppose it saves the bin men a job.

Christmas will soon be with us and I have been busy adding new products to The Memorabilia Shop and All Occasions Frames web sites.
On a personal note I am a bit apprehensive about Christmas, I'm not too sure what is going to happen with the girls, obviously I would love to have them all weekend but realistically I know that their Mother will want them sometime, just not looking forward to spending time apart from them over the festive period.

Well that is it for now, hopefully I will have more good news to report soon.

Saturdays Sun newspaper carried the back page headlines about the Pakistan Cricket team and whether they should be allowed to carry on playing in this country after the match fixing row.

Now I find this very hypocritical from a newspaper that is constantly reporting how wonderful footballers like Wayne Rooney, John Terry, Steven Gerrard and many others are when they are constantly trying to cheat the referees by going to ground too easily or are trying to intimidate them into giving them decisions or get their opponents sent off, in other words CHEAT.

Why isn't The Sun calling for these footballers to be banned from playing in this country?

How to deal with a letter from the taxman

A lot has been said about the latest cock up from HMRC, whether it is right or wrong about if we should pay any over payments back there have been a lot of rumours flying round about how and when this should be done. I received this email from Moneywise and it has certainly set my mind at rest even if I may still have to pay some money back to the Taxman.

HM Revenue & Customs have just begun the first wave of a three month process informing six million taxpayers that they have paid the wrong tax.

The first batch of 45,000 letters hitting the doormat this week will go to some of the 4.3 million individuals who are lucky enough to be due a rebate averaging £420 each, while others will be received by some of the 1.8 million taxpayers who have underpaid, on average by £1,400.

Why the letters?

The tax payment problem arose a while ago when HMRC merged 20 computer systems into one. This resulted in some old data being read as current information. Subsequently, people’s tax codes were incorrect and this affected the amount of tax they paid each month - too much or not enough.

The computer system now shows that HMRC is owed £2 billion through underpaid tax over the past two tax years, but it also revealed that it was overpaid by 1.8bn.

Some have argued there should be no action on either front, while others question why people should overpay their tax at the expense of those who have underpaid. So the HMRC see that a letter to all those involved is the only way of resolving the issue.

For those with a small underpayment - under £300 - the HMRC will not try to recover the sum.

Is the letter a tax demand?

No, it's a tax calculation, the HMRC’s estimate of the taxpayer’s tax position. The letter is purely information from HMRC of what they think your correct tax code is and whether they owe you, or you owe them, money. Don't panic and confuse this with a tax demand.

What do I do if I receive a letter saying I owe them money?

Make sure the information in the letter is correct and read the P800 form and guidance notes. For example, it might state that you have more than one job when you don’t, or that you have a company car when you don’t. The form may also not detail any tax relief you are entitled to, so look out for mistakes straightaway.

Another area to look at is your employer as they may be to blame for not using your personal tax code correctly and deducting the wrong amount of tax from your pay. If so take the issue up with them.

Can I ask for the debt to be written off?

It is possible under certain circumstances. You will need to see if the letter is out of date and if the revenue has delayed more than a year in informing you about any tax shortfall then you can ask to have the debt written off.

This will only apply if, when you open the letter, you find that the underpaid tax relates to the 2008-2009 tax year, (more than 12 months old) and importantly that you are satisfied that you provided the tax office with all the information they needed at the time. If so and they failed to act upon it then you can request an 'Extra-Statutory Concession A19' that the debt be written off.

How do I check my tax code?

You can check your tax code at hmrc.gov.uk/incometax.

You can also use an on-line calculator at listentotaxman.com to ensure your net pay is right for your circumstances.

My tax code is wrong, what is the best way to contact HMRC?

You can contact HMRC on 0845 3000 627 but be aware they are likely to be extremely busy as a result of this current issue. More contact details will be on your letter and P800 form.

It may be best to write, clearly stating your reasons for your grievance and the tax year concerned, 2008-2009 or 2009 -2010. Make sure you send the letter and any supporting documentation recorded delivery to prove postage and keep a copy of everything. See a template letter here.

What if I genuinely cannot afford to repay the debt?

There is the possibility that HMRC will put pressure on you to pay back all the tax immediately. If this happens you should put in counter-proposals, for example, refusing the new tax code and making alternative arrangements to pay by cash instalments over a period that you can manage. Always remember that any underpayment is not your fault, it was caused by HMRC.

Can I appeal against my calculation?

If you submit an A19 concession and it is rejected then you can go to a free appeal service run by the Adjudicator’s Office which is seen as a fair and unbiased complaints intermediary for HMRC grievances.

What happens if I am due a rebate or accept I owe money?

Anyone due a rebate will receive a cheque within seven to ten days of receiving the first letter; this will include 0.5% interest!

If you are one of the unlucky ones that owes money, then provided this is below £2,000 you will receive a new tax code early next year. This new code will come into force in April to enable the collection of any monies owed to be collected throughout that year.

If the amount you owe is above £2,000 then HMRC will write to you and ask for direct payment. If you cannot afford to repay this then you need to contact them to arrange a repayment strategy.

Those in receipt of benefits

This is another issue that has not been resolved as those on very low incomes may have been entitled to higher benefits, denied them through inaccurate tax coding. There is no right to claim backdated benefits.

Scam emails

All your communication from HMRC will be by letter, they will not send you an email. If you receive an email promising a refund and requiring your bank details, don't open it! It will be a scam and the same applies to any telephone calls from HMRC requesting bank details.

Most importantly, if you receive a letter regarding overpayment, don’t ignore it, do something about it as the HMRC do not go away.

If you are looking to make some extra money on the side to help ease modern days financial pressure then I may be able to help you. Before you stop reading it isn't a get rich scheme, MLM or Pyramid Marketing, they are all genuine money making ideas which may not make you rich but they may help you pay a few bills or give you a little bit of pocket money.

I must stress that none of these money making schemes are my idea, they were received in an email from Moneywise but as someone who is struggling financially myself I thought it would be a great idea to share them with everyone. I have personally tried some of the ideas myself, currently doing so or about to do so in the near future.

I will let you know how I have got on with these money making schemes and would be grateful if you could leave me your feedback and let me know how you have got on yourselves.

The new austerity measures from the coalition government mean many people will have to tighten their belts over the coming months. While sticking to a budget and finding ways to cut back are advisable, with a little imagination and effort you could find there are ways you can actually make money.

Moneywise has come up with 20 ways to make money during the credit crunch - some are easier than others but all of them could see you make some extra cash.

1. Track down old accounts

According to the British Bankers’ Association, there is more than £15 billion sitting forgotten in bank and savings accounts in the UK, with the average balance estimated to be £600.

The good news is that tracing lost funds has become easier with Mylostaccount.org.uk – a free online service that covers all UK bank and building society accounts. All you need to do is to go to the website and type in your details.

2. Claim tax credits

It’s always worth checking that you are receiving all the tax credits you are eligible for. Research by entitledto.co.uk found that people across the UK are collectively missing out on benefits and tax credits worth more than £8 billion a year. So while you’re tracing lost funds, why not visit the entitledto.co.uk website too and work out how much you could claim.

3. Sort your savings

Another easy way to make money is to make sure your savings are working as hard as they can.

If you’ve had the same savings account for a while it might be worth shopping around because new customers tend to get the most competitive rates. Good rates come and go, but if you've had a savings account for more than a year the chances are the interest you are earning is not the best out there.

If you have a lump sum that you are prepared to lock away for 12 months or longer, then a fixed-rate account might be best. This type of deal will also protect you from interest rate cuts.

If you want to start a savings habit then a regular savings account is a good way to ensure you put a set amount of money away each month. But if you want to make deposits as and when, an instant access deal could be the one for you.

However, if you haven't yet used your ISA allowance for the current tax year then this sort of account should be the first home for any savings. You can save up to £5,100 each tax year as cash in an ISA and this will not be taxed.

I haven't got many savings but I have found that if I put all my spare change in a jar it soon mounts up to a reasonable amount.

4. Mystery shopper

If you're longing for some retail therapy but can’t afford to hit the shops, why not earn a few pounds as a mystery shopper? Websites such as Retaileyes.co.uk employ mystery shoppers to drop in unannounced in shops and restaurants and rate their experience.

After you send in your feedback, you’ll be paid for your time and reimbursed for any purchases you made. You could make up to £20 a day, and get a meal or a night in a nice hotel thrown in for good measure.

This is one thing I am definately interested in doing,well who wouldn't, getting paid to shop and even keep the items. Mystery Shopper is definately one way of making extra money that I will seriously be looking at in the near future.

5. Use cashback credit cards

If you pay off your credit bill in full each month, a cashback credit card could be the way to go. These offer you moneyback on purchases in certain shops or on goods such as petrol.

“Cashback credit cards are a great way to reward savvy spenders,” says Andrew Hagger, from Moneynet.co.uk, a price comparison website. “You can earn extra cash without even having to change your shopping habits.

I haven't got a credit card and wont be having one in the near future due to various reasons but if you want one this is a great way of earning extra cash but remember to pay off your bill in full otherwise any money made will be lost in interest.

6. Cashback sites

You can earn even more money from shopping online. Cashback websites will automatically pay you every time you buy a product or a service from selected retailers, from your weekly groceries to switching your utility provider.

For example, CashbackKings.co.uk would pay you £8 if you spent £100 at lastminute.com, up to £45 if you switch your home insurance to Aviva and as much as £95 if you were to take out an ISA Scottish Friendly.

These are a great way of earning money from your normal online shopping. I normally use Quidco but there are several out there, I haven't had any problems with them so far but some of the less scruplious hold onto your money and don't always pay out.

7. Take in a lodger

While most of us pay a fortune for our homes, it’s possible to make your home make money for you.

According to Abbey, you could make as much as £289 a month from renting out a spare room. Under the government’s ‘rent a room’ scheme, you don’t need to pay tax on the first £4,250 you receive either, which means you could charge up to £354.16 a month without being lumbered with a tax bill.

I have just taken in a lodger and so far things are going well, she is somebody I know but not really a close friend or a complete stranger which I think is the ideal situation to be in. It is a good way of earning some extra money if you have a spare room but you do have to be careful if you have a stranger in your house and also have to make some ground rules about food, bills, tv etc.

8. Rent out a parking space

If you live close to a city centre, train station or football stadium and don’t use your parking space or garage, you’re sitting on a proverbial goldmine. Renting an empty parking place to a commuter or football fan could see you rake in the pounds.

Parkatmyhouse.com is a website where you can advertise your space free of charge and let frustrated drivers get in touch. A parking space in the West End of London, for example, can fetch £500 a month, while in a leafy suburb of Leeds a space could net you £100.

I live too far away from the centre of town for this to be of any use to anybody unfortunately as I have enough room to park another car in front of the house.

9. Auctions

We’re all guilty of hoarding items that "could come in handy one day". But one man’s rubbish could be another man’s treasure, which is why online auction website eBay.co.uk is so successful. In fact, eBay estimates the average British house has about £450 worth of unwanted items that could be sold on the site.

For more valuable items, it could be worth going to an auction. Jonty Hearnden, antiques expert and presenter of BBC 1's Cash in the Attic and Sun, Sea and Bargain Spotting, says you should contact a local auctioneer if you think an item could be valuable.

"You could be asked to email across a digital photo, which the auctioneer will assess for free, or the auctioneer might visit you at no extra cost to take a closer look - especially if it is a large item," he explains.

I've had a dabble like a large number of people with Ebay but never been to a proper auction house, haven't got anything worth taking to be honest.

10. Car boot sales

If you’d prefer money in your palm instantly, a car boot sale is the place to go. Thousands of people flock to car boot sales every weekend, with pitches costing about £10 a day. To find out where to flog your booty, check out Carbootjunction.com.

I have helped other people sell things at car boots but never sold any of my own items, I certainly have enough stuff to get rid of so perhaps I should do one oneday.

11. Recycle your old mobile

Many of us have an old mobile phone gathering dust in a drawer somewhere, but you could easily turn it into cash, even if it is slightly damaged. Websites such as Mopay.co.uk, Fonebank.com and Envirofone.com will tell you how much your phone is worth. An iPhone 3G, for example, could fetch around £130.

12. Sell your skills

We all have skills and talents so why not use these to make a few extra quid.

Unfortunately I don't have any skills that I think people will pay good money for, but who knows in the future I may acquire some.

13. Be a Film extra

If you fancy seeing yourself on screen, film and TV companies are always on the hunt for extras. You could make up to £150 a day and get the chance to meet some famous actors. You’ll need to join an agency first, details of one near you can be found at Nasaa.org.uk.

Would love to do this but living out in the country there isn't much call for this kind of work unfortunately.

14. Rent your home to film makers

Hollywood can come to your home too, provided you have the right location. If you live in an interesting property, you could bag upwards of £1,000 a day renting your home to film and TV companies. Ideal locations must have large rooms, good parking facilities and understanding neighbours. Ordinary homes are wanted too.

Well apart from the understanding neighbours I think most of this rules our house from this kind of work.

15. Model your child

While every parent thinks their child is a star, model agencies could think so too. If you think your little one has what it takes, the first step is to contact an agency to ask about their requirements. You will be asked to send in a head and shoulders photo of your child, either by post or email.

If your child stands out, you’ll both be invited for an interview, to assess if your child is right for TV, photo or film. Depending on the child’s age, shoots pay upwards £50 an hour, but bear in mind that agencies can charge up to 25% commission.

I have considered this but some of the agencies I have looked at want you to pay a fee upfront which I don't think is right, if the child is good enough they would fall over themselves to take them on.

16. Surveys that pay

The web also offers a wealth of balance-boosting opportunities. Survey websites such as Yougov.com, Panelbase.net and Toluna.com will all reward you for your opinions, either through cash or reward vouchers.
Once you’ve registered on the website, you’ll be sent surveys tailored to your personal profile, ranging from 10p to £2 per survey.

This is one I have earnt a reasonable amount of money from in the past, mainly on Valued Opinions and Pure Profile but there are others that are as equally profitable.

17. Earn from web research

Any Question Answered (Issuebits.com), are often on the lookout for internet researchers. Once a customer asks a question through their mobile phone, it’s the researcher’s job to hunt out the answer and reply online.

You can choose your own hours and the questions you answer, and can earn around 30p for every question you answer correctly.

This sounds like it could be good fun, may consider doing this when I get time.

18. Review music

Budding Simon Cowells amongst us should check out soundout.com, a music website that pays users to review unsigned bands. The idea is simple: you sign up, listen to a track, rate it and write an honest review. You’ll get 5p per review, but the more reviews you make the more you can charge – experienced reviewers can command 25p per song.

“If you’re a dedicated reviewer, you can earn some decent pocket money, some users have earned in excess of £1,000,” says David Courtier-Dutton, the founder of soundout.com.

This sounds like a fantastic idea, I love music so getting paid to listen to it is a great way of earning extra money, will definately give this one a go.

19. Medical experiments

Volunteering for clinical trials doesn’t just have to involve taking untested and risky drugs. Some clinical trials are perfectly safe, such as sleep studies, psychological tests and taste testers. Fit and healthy volunteers living in London willing to donate their blood for clinical research, for example, could be paid £60 a time.

But remember, never sign up for anything you are not happy with – risking your health for a few extra pounds is just not worth it. Go to Gpgp.net for trials in your area.

Cant say I fancy using my body for medical experiments but I am sure some people will.

20. Join the TA

If you’re brave and committed enough to sign up, the Territorial Army is always looking for recruits. You would need to give up one weekend a month, attend an annual two-week camp for basic training and be ready to be called to active service.

Basic pay starts at £34.41 a day, but can rise to £112.51. When you meet the minimum yearly training requirement (27 days if you’re in a Regional Territorial unit, 19 days if you’re in a National unit) you receive an extra payment known as a bounty. This increases as you spend more time as a Territorial, so within five years of joining, you could receive an extra £1600 a year. Go to Armyjobs.mod.uk for details.

I think I'm a little bit too old for this, but could be serious fun if you are into this sort of thing.

Well there you have it, 20 great ways of making a bit of extra money, as I said before you wont make a fortune but you will make enough to buy a few little extras.

Well my Roller coaster is certainly on the downward slope now, I really have never ever felt the emotions that I am feeling now and I never want to feel them again. I am being faced with some devastating news and it seems as there is absolutely nothing that I can do about it.

I am facing losing the three things that I love the most and really cannot bear the thought of that happening. I am sat here watching my two beautiful girls playing with innocent laughter on their faces not realising what is going on while I have tears constantly running down my cheeks.

Access is great but it will never ever replace the fact that the last thing I see before I go to bed are my beautiful girls and the first thing that I see when I wake up is the same sight.

I really now know the meaning of being heartbroken as my heart feels as though it is being broken into a million pieces.

The Roller Coaster of Emotions

The last two weeks have been a bit of a Roller coaster Ride for me with even the tiniest of things getting me down. It has been a constant battle with my 4 year old to get her to do anything the first time I ask her to but I think that is on the up now.
Georgie was 1 years old on the 7Th February, time has certainly flown by there and even she has been a bit of a pain waking up at all hours of the morning which hasn't been too good as I have to get up at 4ish for work.

Talking of work that has been getting me down a bit with all the extra hours even though I realise it is necessary to pay for our holidays. I have been told that my round will be sorted out by the beginning of April and I will be going back to working my proper hours. Today, Monday 22 February sees my 1 year anniversary of doing extra on my round, not bad considering it was only supposed to be for 2 weeks.

Overall I think my personal life has started to turn the corner and is on the up again, I sincerely hope so.

Away from my personal life it is great to see Aston Villa doing so well, a great 5-2 victory over Burnley yesterday, a FA Cup Quarter Final place beckoning if we can overcome Crystal Palace on Wednesday and not forgetting the Carling Cup Final against Manchester United on Sunday. Unfortunately I gave my Season Ticket up this year so I cannot get a ticket for the Final so will probably watch the game in the pub.

I have been busy adding products to our web sites, promoting them and even been promoting Local Band Fifteen English Pounds on Facebook so I have been very busy with no sign of a let up anytime soon.

We went to Malvern Theatre on the 13Th February to watch The Rocky Horror Show, Claire bought me tickets for my Christmas Present. We had a fantastic time and it was great fun dressing up although for some reason I had a few funny looks when I got back to the pub afterwards.

Last week saw what can only be described as one of the lowest points in Evesham's long History. Thursday 11Th February saw crazed father Chris Grady drive is car into the River Avon with his two Children Ryan and Gabby inside. Ryan and his Father managed to escape straight away but Gabby remained trapped inside for two hours, she survived but lost her battle for life on Sunday 14Th February.
The rescue services did a fantastic job but questions have to be asked why this day and age that not every county has adequate rescue equipment as specialist Dive teams had to come from neighbouring Avon and Somerset. It seems in this Country we seem to care more about giving money to Asylum Seekers and dossers who have no wish to work than look after our own law abiding, tax paying citizens.
Since this awful tradegy there has been so much public out pouring of emotions with flowers, toys and messages being place on the tree in the Market Square, several Facebook Groups have been set up where you can leave your messages of condolence and even one where you can leave all of your messages of hatred etc to the killer.
Yesterday (Sunday 21st February) saw several hundred people gather in the Market Square for a minutes silence and balloon release.

Chris Grady has been charged with two accounts of attempted murder with one expected to be changed to murder the next time he goes to court.

I am sat here writing this looking at my two beautiful daughters and wondering how anyone can do this to their own children, he is certainly reason enough to bring back the Death Penalty.

League Cup Semi Final, Aston Villa v Blackburn Rovers

Had a good week last week, went to my first football match of the season, and what a game it was. Went to the League Cup semi final between Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers. Villa were 2-0 down in the first 20ish minutes, I thought that was it and we were going to get knocked out. Thankfully due to a poor refereeing decision Villa were let back in to the game and then a definite penalty put us back in front of the tie. I don't think anyone could have predicted the final scoreline of 6-4 to Villa which surely means it goes down as one of the greatest semi-finals in Football history.
The fans reaction at the end showed just how much this competition means to people and that it isn't the Mickey Mouse Cup that some people tout it as. The sad thing is that according to some sources that Aston Villa Football Club will be fined for not controlling their fans in the post match "Friendly" pitch invasion. Have the powers that be got nothing better to do?

After the euphoria had died down the realisation that because I gave my Season Ticket up due to financial difficulties, that the only probable way of getting a ticket for the final would be to pay Ticket Tout or pay £300+ to a Ticket Agency. Neither of these options are acceptable as I am very loathe to give my hard earned money to these leeches.

For once in my life I actually want Manchester United to win their semi final against Manchester City as I feel they have bigger fish to fry and do not take the competition seriously, making them the "easier" opponents, we will find out who we play on Wednesday night.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

What a week this has been, I have been on holiday all week but not got a great deal done. Monday night I made a last minute decision to go with Claire and the kids to her parents in Upton Upon Severn as they had a dentist appointment the next day. The plan was to come home about mid-day on the Tuesday but due to the bad weather we could not get home. We eventually got home Wednesday evening but that was only because the cats only had enough food for Monday night so we made an extra special effort to get home. I was dreading the sight we were going to get home to but fortunately they were both OK apart from being a little bit hungry.

I have been loving the snow apart from having to deliver the newspapers in it. The scenery takes a whole new look to it, just like Walking in a Winter Wonderland and I know it is a bit of an inconvenience but I really cannot understand why people are moaning about it after a couple of days, just enjoy it while it is here.

On the subject of the snow, I live on one of the busiest roads in town and do you think we have seen a gritter or a snow plough, not a chance and to think they threaten me with court action if the Council Tax is late.

The last few days of the week I have had a cold and have felt really under the weather so have not felt like doing a lot even though I have had loads planned. The big job that I really need to get done is the Tax Returns for the web sites, this wouldn't be too bad but I have 18months of accounts to do first, there's always next week I suppose.

Finally got round to watching Final Destination 3D last night, thought the film was ok, not quite as good as the first couple but the 3D effects made it a good film. Although because of the red and green glasses the films colours were a bit washed out and they did get a bit annoying at times.

Back to work on Monday, not looking forward to it, hope I've won the lottery tonight.

Snow bound

Another night at the in-laws due to the snow, cant wait to get home though. Bet the cats cant either, for once I hope we have got some mice in the conservatory so that they have something to eat. The up side of the snow is that I have hopefully got some great pictures, and hopefully will get some more tomorrow. Got a few orders stacking up as well, hopefully be able to get home soon to process them.

Had a rude awaking from 2 kids shouting and jumping on the bed, had to give in eventually and take them downstairs.
Got a lot done though, cleaned the birds and cats out, , emptied the bins, load of washing up and even got the dinner prepared.

Claire eventually got up which meant I could do some work in the garden, emptied some pots, pruned a shrub and then found the gruesome discovery that we had a death in the family. A frog had managed to get itself frozen in ice at the top of the pond.

We had my parents round for dinner, to have Christmas dinner again as nobody really felt like it on the day. It was fantastic apart from no turkey or Pigs In Blankets.

Had a bit of a quiet evening, now just watching Rude Tube before bed.

Typical isn't it, yesterday I had 12 hours sleep then last night I didn't get to sleep until at least 2.30am which isn't too good really when my alarm is set for 4am. Anyway I managed to get up on time, the frosty morning was a bit of a shock to the system but it kept me awake long enough to get to work.

Wasn't too bad at work but had to sit around for half hour or so waiting for mail to come in. My round was uneventful today apart from noticing a shop wall had been smashed by a car sometime over the weekend leaving a fair bit of damage. Even managed to get a ten pound tip off a customer and finished at quite reasonable time for a change.

After a brief wait in the Post Office posting some packets for the business it was a trip to the Coop to pick up a few things and then home. I decided to stop off in Magpie Antiques to get some modelling glue, I am determined to finish off some of the models I have started. Wish I hadn't gone in there I could've spent a fortune on models and railways but I was quite restrained and left only with the glue and a few ideas for the future.

Got home to what can only be described as a right mess of toys and games with two little girls in the thick of action, they seemed happy enough anyway.

After something to eat I took Georgie to bed to get her to sleep, not sure which of us fell asleep first but I was soon woken up by Claire telling me she had to take someone home to Kidderminster, this had been on and off all day and was now obviously back on.

After a few games of Gator Golf and Pairs with Aston Iam still waiting for Claire to come home...

At least Villa won today and are in the next round of the FA Cup.

Well the first day of 2010 has been a bit of a quiet one. Cant remember getting home this morning but I have been told it was 3am. Had a good time at the pub anyway with a few beers. Woke up about 12.30, had an ice lollyjolly then went back to bed until 3pm. Spent the afternoon relaxing in the bath and watching tv. Packaged a few orders and then went to my parents for tea, now waiting for Claire to come back from the shop so we can go home and go to bed, probably wont be able to sleep though.

Day off today, not done a great deal except a bit of tidying upand watching the Sarah Jane Adventures. Another "day off" on Friday unless Royal Mail and the CWU can come to an agreement.
Been taking my inspiration from How Clean Is Your House, I wish they would come and have a go in our house though.

Been busy lately adding stock to the web sites and trying to promote them in readiness for our busy period.

Wonder how many people will ask me tomorrow why I am not on strike, do people not read the papers properly, then again it could be badly reported articles?

Saturday Mish Mash

Well, what a day Saturday was. I wanted to go into work early so that I could get finished early, this didn't happen and I only just managed to get to work on time. Work wasn't too bad though and with a bit of running I managed to get finished early enough to get to the pub in time to watch the start of Aston Villa versus Chelsea match. What a match it was as well Villa opened well and should have had a penalty before Chelsea scored with a speculative shot, but Villa hit back with two great headers to win the match, hope that shut the commentators up who kept going on about Chelsea not losing when they go ahead in matches.
Aston looked great sat in her Villa shirt right in front of the tele watching the horse racing, she is either going to be a gambler or jockey I think when she gets older.

We went swimming afterwards and in hindsight I don't think drinking 3 pints of Boddingtons was a good preparation for it. Once again Evesham main pool wasn't too warm but it was still a lot warmer than the changing room area which was uncomfortably cold. I will give it one more try and if it doesn't improve I will start going elsewhere.However the kids enjoyed it and are getting more confident.

Claire decided she wanted to go to her parents but I didn't fancy so stayed at home planning to do a load of work on our web sites and some housework. Had Haddock and chips for tea, I was really looking forward to it but it was a bit of a disappointment and I ended up leaving some.

Do you think the planned work happened? You guessed right I fell asleep and woke up just before Claire came home. Haven't stopped eating and watching rubbish on TV since then.

Oh well better go to bed in a minute otherwise I wont get much sleep before the kids wake up.

Discovered Twitter so been on there quite a bit meaning I haven't been Blogging much lately.

Had a holiday at Butlins and now busy preparing for The Three Counties Wedding Fair next week with All Occasions Frames and a Christmas Fayre at Dumbleton Hall with The Memorabilia Shop.

Hope we have some sales what with the Royal Mail Strikes next week, going to lose some money there in my main job.

Morrison's Packaging Madness

Yesterday I arrived at Morrison's in time to see a middle aged woman berating the manager. It wasn't until I got closer that I found out what her problem was, holding in his hand the manager had a polystyrene tray with the contents cling wrapped inside.

The contents were not several loose items as you would have first thought but a SINGLE banana, yes one solitary banana, it was only then that I realised how stupid and idiotic the world is getting. With all the commotion about too much packaging and single use carrier bags it just shows that we we still have a very long way to go, but hopefully this lone woman has shamed this particular manager of Morrison's into getting the ball rolling a little bit faster before it is too late.

the smell of Play Doh, not the cheap stuff, the proper stuff. It is more expensive but you just cannot beat the smell of it. It brings back so many memories from my younger days and is one advantage of having a small child, just wish she would let me play with it a bit more.

Well unfortunately the weather got the better of the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford this weekend which was a bitter disappointment to me as I have spent all year looking forward to it. Hopefully next year the show wont suffer and will bounce back and be bigger and better than ever.
On the plus side I got to go to Evesham River Festival where there was a Fly Past by a Lancaster Bomber and I also saw it again on the Sunday over my girlfriends parents house.

Wet Weather Camping

Just in the process of sorting my camping stuff out for tomorrows trip to RAF Fairford for the Royal International Air Tattoo, not looking too good on the weather front though. Apparently one campsite has been closed to new admissions on safety grounds and the one I normally stop at is under water in places but I have been told that loads of people left yesterday so I may be able to get on there. I hope I can get a place as it is the one trip away I really look forward to each year.
At the moment though I cant find the tent pegs so I may not be able to camp after all. As long as I have got all of my camera gear though, that is all that matters.

Rain, Rain Go Away

One thing to be said about all this rain, I don't have to go and water the garden now. All the plants seem to be thriving now because of it, even the slow growing ones and even the late planted marigolds have started to bud.. I'm still annoyed at getting wet this morning at work though.
I hope the rain has gone by Saturday and the ground has dried up a bit as I am going camping for the night.

Villa v Blues

Only three days to go and the excitement before Sundays' big game is already hotting up. Aston Villa Captain Gareth Barry has "said" something to the papers which as usual as been twisted out of all proportion to sell newspapers and inflame the already volatile situation. Hope fully this will not get to the Villa players and they will do the talking on the pitch.
Unusually I haven`t had the usual Villa baiting that I normally receive from Blues fans, in fact most of them seem resigned to the fact that Villa will win. If that happens and Bolton win away to Middlesborough it will put Birmingham back into the relegation zone with games fast running out and a Villa win would mean that they are back in the fight for the final UEFA Cup place, especially after Everton losing last night and a meeting between the two teams to come.
Sunday is going to be a big game for both teams and next season could revolve around this eagerly anticipated match.

Sunday is a big game for Birmingham City Football Club, it is one of two games a season that they only really care about. Their fans wouldn't mind if they lost all of their other games as long as they win the two against their fiercest rivals from across the City, the aristocrats to their paupers, the Royalty to their servants. I am talking of course about one of only 5 British Clubs to win the European Cup, Aston Villa.
To Villa fans, a loss against Birmingham is just a minor blip in their quest to regain the form of the late 70`s and early 80`s that saw them challenging with Europe's elite whilst a loss for Birmingham fans is their worst nightmare and would ruin their whole season, as it appears to mean more to them than it does to Villa fans who have bigger fish to fry.

Just learnt that this years Antfest is going to be held in Birmingham again, that is great news for me and other Adam Ant fans in the Midlands, although I`m sure that most of us would have travelled wherever it was.
It is to be held at THE WAREHOUSE in Digbeth, Birmingham. Not sure what date it is yet because it has been changed but the tickets go on sale this week.

Aston Villa 0 v 2 Manchester United

Well unfortunately Villa lost 2-0 againstManchester United this evening despite a valiant first half effort. Although I do think if United had fallen behind they would have stepped up a gear.

Late 2nd half goals from Ronaldo and Rooney were enough to send the visitors into the hat for the 4th round draw.

Today is a big day for Aston Villa Football Club in terms of seeing how far we have actually come in footballing terms since Randy Lerner took over. Villa play Manchester United in the FA Cup Third Round and as we haven`t beaten them in all competitions since 1999 today's game is a good yardstick to go by. A win would be a magnificent result and show that things are on the up, a lose would show that things have still got to improve considerably before we can start challenging regularly for the coveted European places.
Personally I hope we beat United and shut a few people up, especially those supporters and media pundits that think that United have the God given right to win every game that they play.
One thing I know is that Villa Park will be rocking this afternoon with a capacity crowd willing the Villa team on to a historic victory and a place in the FA Cup Fourth Round draw.

Santa`s Workshop

I Thought I`d Found A Bargain

I was wandering round Evesham Country Park this morning when I came across a 20 metre Rope Light in the sale. It was only white but at £9 instead of £40 it was a bargain and a half. I never realised that they would be so heavy, but none the less I was happy and content walking round with My bargain until that is someone pointed out that it was only a connecting piece, thus the great price. I thought maybe that they wanted it for themselves and was hoping that I put it back, I nodded a thanks and wandered off until they were out of site and checked the box for any tell tale signs of it being a connecting piece, there were none so my earlier suspicions of their motives looked like they were going to be proved. On closer inspection inside the box the rope light was in fact only a connecting piece and my hopes of getting an 80`s Disco at home grew further away again as I placed the box back upon the shelf.

I started watching Heroes on Saturday night on BBC2 Catch-up. I don`t normally like these kind of American series but I saw a trailer for it and thought it looked pretty good. I set the Sky+ box to record it and started to watch it when my girlfriend had gone to bed.
I thought the first episode was pretty slow and kept repeating itself, it wasn`t long before I got the general idea that these people had got special powers. I nearly never watched anymore episodes but I thought that I would give it the benefit of the doubt, I`m glad I did as it has got better and better as the episodes have progressed and some of the effects are pretty amazing. My favourite effect so far has to be when Hiro stopped time to prevent the girl being run over by the van.
Anyway I am up to episode four and look forward to watching the resyt of the episodes and if you haven`t seen it yet I urge you to get a copy and do so.

Bentleys Nails

Took Bentley to have his nails cut yesterday, they're still long but he actually had them done without too much effort, hopefully they will be short enough for the Summer shows.

Toilet Lid

I just had to post this, it`s not a major thing but it really annoys me when the toilet lid is left up, it only takes a few seconds to put it back down so bloody well put it back down when you`ve finished.

Anyone else got any thoughts on this, I would love to hear them?

Fed Up With Christmas?

Is anybody else fed up with Christmas yet, or to put it more accurately Christmas Songs? For at least the last couple of weeks shops have been playing Christmas songs and it is driving me mad. Don`t get me wrong I love Christmas but there can be too much too soon.

Had to take my dog to the vets yesterday, it turns out that he has a few psychological problems, the reason why he is so clingy at the moment. That`s all I need, a dog that needs to see a shrink, LOL.
